The Elvetham Hotel

What was your favourite part of your wedding at The Elvetham Hotel?

It’s a massive cliché but we both agree, it genuinely was the best day of our lives so far. To marry your best friend in front of all the people you love is always going to be amazing… but it’s not until you’re actually there on the day, that you realise how special it will make you feel.

What made you choose The Elvetham Hotel as your wedding venue?

The Elvetham was the first venue we went to see, but we absolutely fell in love with the beautiful decor and stunning staircase – and knew, without seeing a single other venue, that it was the perfect place for us! Everything being under one roof was an important factor and with a fairly modest number of guests, it meant that everyone we invited would have the option of staying the night. The Elvetham didn’t disappoint either – all their staff were so attentive, and the whole day was coordinated to perfection!

What made you choose your details and styling for your wedding and how did you get inspiration for this?

Our chosen wedding date (being the 30th December) meant the theme and styling for our wedding was mostly decided by default. We’ve both always loved the festive season and so getting married at Christmas time was perfect. The Elvetham would still have all their beautiful Christmas trees and garlands up, so we ran with the Christmas theme – rather than fight it. We had a reindeer themed table plan displayed on a pre-lit snowy tree, our flowers and the wedding party colour scheme was a deep ‘Christmassy’ red, and we had labelled pine cones as place cards. Most of the inspiration came from online research on Pinterest and other wedding websites.

Did you have any entertainment at your wedding and what made you choose it?

We had a caricaturist at our wedding which was a real hit with our guests… We had him for two, two hour sessions because we wanted to make sure there were no lulls during the day. So he did one session during the drinks reception after the ceremony, and then one after the wedding breakfast, before the evening guests arrived. It meant that all our day guests got a caricature instead of a favour, and I know several friends and family who already have them framed and hanging in their homes! We also put together activity boxes for the children at our wedding breakfast including colouring, books and small toys, which proved popular too.

What would your advice be to other couples planning their wedding?

Our advice would be to narrow down your choices! There are so many choices and decisions to make for your wedding, and having such a set theme really helped us to make our choices quickly and without too much stress (this also really helped with having such a short engagement). The other piece of advice would be to do what you want to do and put value, importance and budget on what matters most to you as a couple, rather than what you think should matter most.

What did you like best about working with Joe Mallen Photography?

We really couldn’t have been any happier having chosen Joe Mallen Photography to capture our wedding. Joe managed to beautifully photograph every part of our special day, without being imposing or overbearing at any point. We have come away with the perfect mix of natural, traditional and artistic photographs to treasure and remind us of that amazing day forever! Thank you Joe!!
