The Old Mill Aldermaston

It was a banging hot summer’s day with beautiful wall-to-wall sunshine, It was probably one of the best days we had all year. Gary got ready at home with all his groomsmen and Annabelle was ready at her mum’s with her closest friends.

I first met Gary and Annabelle at the Old Mill’s wedding fair a year prior to their big day. Since then we have done a wonderful engagement shoot where they got a bit of practice in front of the camera, so they knew what to expect. Plus its a great way to get to know each other before the day itself, and i’m a bit more like a friend with a camera than some stranger turning up!

The wedding ceremony was at St James Catholic Church, which is a beautiful 1830s Catholic church set within the Abbey Ruins in the heart of Reading town centre. Gary was waiting for his bride, and Annabelle arrived with her bridal party in a vintage powder blue VW Camper.

After the ceremony, Gary and Annabelle joined all their guests outside to be met with a “shed” tone of confetti! We then captured some group shots on the steps of the church before making our way to the reception for drinks and canapés at The Old Mill, Aldermaston.

Their guests were able to enjoy the sunny day in The Old Mill’s beautiful gardens, along the riverside, playing garden games and sipping on Pimms and cocktails. Sounds perfect and it really was! I like the couple to enjoy as much of the drinks reception as possible before doing any couples photos so just before the wedding breakfast, I whisked Gary and Annabelle off for about 15 minutes of photos while having a walk around the grounds.

The Old Mill has so many great photo locations. I’ve shot weddings here at all different times of the year and every one offers something unique.
After the photos, the couple had a few minutes to themselves before it was time for everyone to enjoy the wedding breakfast, followed by the speeches which were full of love, laughter and emotion.

As the evening started to close in, we headed back outside to the most incredible golden hour light and…. wow! We captured some amazing sunset photos. The evening got started with the cutting of the beautiful and elegant 3-tier cake, followed by Gary and Annabelle’s superbly choreographed first dance. These two absolutely killed it and the guests raised the roof with applause before joining them on the dance floor to party the night away,

Joe was absolutely fantastic on the build-up to the wedding with the pre-wedding shoot. This was a great idea to get us both comfortable in front of the camera. On the day Joe also knew exactly what he was doing and was in total control even with some family members staying at the bar when required for photos. We are really going to struggle to put an album together of all the photos Joe took because they are all of such high quality. A true artist and professional.
